SEASON 2010/11(Click on the date of a concert, to see the full programme) Our season begins in spectacular fashion on 22nd September with a recital by Stephen Kovacevich, one of the world's great pianists. He plays a programme of 2 Beethoven sonatas, culminating in the great Schubert Bb sonata D 960. There is sure to be a great demand for tickets for this concert, which is being recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3. On 12th October, the Badke String Quartet, winners of the 1st prize at the 5th Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition in 2007, and one of the finest British string quartets, make their debut in Inverness. Pianist Alasdair Beatson, well known to the Inverness audience, returns on 9th November, with violinist Thomas Gould, who is being hailed as one of the brightest young stars in the UK. On 7th December, Pure Brass, a brass quintet formed by 5 recent graduates from the RAMD in Glasgow, present a selection of classic and lesser known works. Our opening concert of 2011, on January 26th, is given by the Cantilena Ensemble, a select group who regularly perform at the Cantilena Festival in Islay. They play a Mozart Divertimento and Mendelssohn's Octet for Strings, one of the most popular works in the chamber repertoire. For our concert on 16th February, we are delighted to welcome back the very popular Kungsbacka Piano Trio, playing Beethoven's "Archduke" trio, and works by Faure and Schumann. Having been awarded a concert by the Tunnell Trust, on 16th March, the Piatti String Quartet makes its Inverness debut playing Smetana's "From my life" and other quartets. Our April concert is given by the winner of the Moray Piano Competition, 2010. |
